“We are proud to announce that Ed Swyer, President and CEO of Swyer Companies will be presented with the BID’s 2011 Compass Award at the Annual meeting,” said Georgette Steffens, Downtown Albany Executive Director, “Through his commitment to his properties and tenants, as well as his support to the arts and cultural organizations, Ed has been an active and dynamic participant in revitalizing downtown Albany.” 

 

President and CEO of The Swyer Companies, which develops, owns and manages commercial real estate, including Stuyvesant Plaza, Inc., 80 State Street, LLC and Selected Properties of the Northeast, LLC. He’s also Vice President of the L. A. Swyer Co., Inc., commercial general contractors and construction managers. Other commercial interests include Hudson River Farms, a thoroughbred breeding and racing company he founded in 1985.

 

Mr. Swyer is a Member of the Board of the State University of New York at Albany Foundation. He served for 11 years on the Board of CH Energy, a NYSE publicly traded energy company, as well as several other company boards. Mr. Swyer and his family have a long history of service to the community. He has been active in the arts, serving on the Board of the Saratoga Performing Arts Center and also on the Empire State Arts Commission under Governor Mario Cuomo. He was also appointed by the NYS Senate to the special Ad Hoc Committee for the Future of Thoroughbred Racing in New York State.
