For Signs of Greatness, Head Downtown

As Downtown is in the midst of transforming into Albany’s newest neighborhood, the Downtown Albany BID is taking a step back in time to showcase from where the Capital City has come. This fall, the BID will install Signs of Greatness: Albany Stories throughout the District. Comprised of 11 interpretive panels which will be permanently displayed, the exhibit will highlight Albany’s Dutch founding and early development with state, national, and arguably international, significance.

Presented in cooperation with the New York State Museum, SUNY Central Administration, and the City of Albany, Signs of Greatness will primarily focus on the colonial era in Albany, particularly the Dutch period (1609 – 1664).  The panels will focus on the central themes of Colonial History, Industry, Science, Technology History, Transportation History, Architectural History, and Political History.

Residents and visitors alike will have the opportunity to experience the early beginnings of downtown Albany and see the transformation that has taken place over the past four centuries.

Join us as we kick off Signs of Greatness at a launch party in the 1st floor gallery at SUNY Plaza (353 Broadway) on October 13 at 5:30 PM. Tickets – $60 advance, $65 door ($40 for under 30) – can be purchased using the link below or by sending a check, made out to Downtown Albany BID, to 21 Lodge Street, 1st Floor, Albany, NY 12207.
