Job Description:
MAJORS: MARKETING, PUBLIC RELATIONS, COMMUNICATIONS, ENGLISH, GRAPHIC DESIGN

MAJORS:  URBAN PLANNING, BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION, ECONOMICS

 

Students would be involved in the following types of projects during their tenure at the BID:

 

STREETSCAPE & CODE ISSUES

§         Work with initiative-based quality of life action committees, including the Quality of Life Committee.  This may involve researching policy, codes, ordinances, and walking the Downtown Albany BID district to determine issues. 

§         Coordinate with City agencies (Department of General Services, Albany Police Department, Parks and Recreation, Planning) on enforcement of code violations on street, sidewalk and landscape improvements.

§         Assist in the dissemination of information within the district that affects and impacts the flow of pedestrian or vehicular traffic as it relates to construction, street closing, snow emergencies, etc.

 

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

§         Work with property owners and building managers to maintain and update current inventory of retail, office and residential spaces.  Assist BID staff in relaying information to the public about available space through direct inquiries, the Downtown Digest newsletter and the BID web site.

§         Work with BID staff and the Business Development Committee on business recruitment and retention through research and data collection.  Participate in the Leasing Committee to help carry out committee initiatives.

 

INTERNSHIP REQUIREMENTS

§         Articulate, organized, timely, enthusiastic

§         Must be able to work in a team environment

§         Willingness to take initiative and work independently when necessary

§         Excellent communication and computer skills required

§         A minimum of 4 hour blocks of time per day and 3 days per week

§         Junior/Senior college student or graduate student

§         Ability to maneuver through the BID district to make personal contact with business owners

§         Ability to distribute promotional materials throughout the BID
