Staying in the Streets
Downtown sculpture exhibition extended through spring
Sculpture in the Streets, downtown Albany’s popular temporary public art exhibition, has added an intriguing visual twist to the streets and parks of downtown Albany and attracted thousands of visitors since July. Based on positive feedback from Albany residents, employees and visitors, the exhibition is being extended until April 2008. Sculpture in the Streets was originally scheduled to conclude on October 31, 2007. The extension is made possible by the unanimous cooperation of the artists and with the support of the City of Albany Department of General Services.
Thirteen of the fourteen original sculptures will continue to grace downtown through the holidays and the winter months. Lactarius, Jim Lewis’ hanging sculpture in Academy Park will be moved to the Uncle Sam Atrium in Troy in early November. The remaining sculptures, created by Don Gialanella, Maria Hall, Matthew & Kevin Hart, Gary Humphreys, Steven Rolf Kroger, Leon Smith and Bob Turan, will remain in downtown Albany.
Sculpture in the Streets is presented by Kivort Steel of Waterford and produced by the Downtown Albany BID with assistance from Albany Center Gallery. Additional underwriting was provided by Axiom Capital, ABM Janitorial Services and O’Connell & Aronowitz. Media partners are Metroland Magazine, the Times Union and WNYT/NewsChannel 13.
