Daniel Mozzes Design Celebrates New Downtown Albany Location at 80 State Street
Daniel Mozzes Design celebrated the opening of its new downtown Albany location at 80 State Street on Monday, September 14. Owner Daniel Mozzes joined Downtown Albany Business Improvement District Executive Director Georgette Steffens, City of Albany Mayor Dr. Dorcey Applyrs, and St. Mary’s Church Deacon Aaron Tremblay to mark the occasion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Mozzes is no stranger to downtown Albany. He opened his first location on Steuben Street in 2016, operating both a workshop where he developed unique designs for his boutique clothing line and a retail showroom. Nearly a decade later, he credits Downtown’s business community and continued investment in the neighborhood with his decision to stay.
Mozzes also lives Downtown with his husband and has called the neighborhood home for more than two years. He said he appreciates the residential character that makes Downtown a place where people can both live and work.
When the opportunity arose to move to a new location on State Street, the oldest continuously operating commercial corridor in the United States and the heart of Albany’s Central Business District, Mozzes took it.
The new showroom is located at the lower level of 80 State Street. After discovering that the vacant property next door was also available, Mozzes expanded the showroom from one room to two, opening new possibilities for his business. He is now considering expanding his primarily women’s clothing line to include menswear, as well as growing his bridal offerings.
The new location also offers consistent foot traffic, with coffee shops, banks, offices, and other businesses nearby. A display case outside the State Street storefront showcases some of Mozzes’ designs, offering passersby a glimpse of his work.
While Mozzes’ commitment to Downtown has remained constant, his designs have evolved since he first opened in 2016. He describes his clothing as more mature and serious, with designer dresses and eveningwear that are designed to make a statement. His pieces are unique, authentic, and made for those who want to stand out.
Mozzes’ passion for fashion began when he was a child and has shaped his career ever since. His designs have been worn throughout the Capital Region and have even made their way to the Oscars red carpet. Looking ahead, he hopes to host a fashion show at 80 State Street.
Daniel Mozzes Design is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Customers interested in custom designs can call 518-729-6024 to schedule an appointment.
“I will design clothing for the rest of my life,” said Daniel Mozzes. “The new location is good. The people in the building are nice, and they are interested in what I do. We need more people to support small artists. These people support me, and I am grateful for them. I love the new location.”
