Mr Bumbles Cafe Celebrates Downtown Expansion with a Ribbon Cutting
Mr Bumbles Cafe celebrated its new Downtown location at 677 Broadway with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, June 2. Owner Brandon Doran, Downtown Albany Business Improvement District Executive Director Georgette Steffens, and City of Albany Mayor Dr. Dorcey Applyrs kicked off the event with remarks about the new cafe, located in the lobby of the 677 Broadway office building.
This is the second location for Mr Bumbles Cafe, which first opened along the busy New Scotland Avenue corridor and celebrated its fifth anniversary this past February. A fast-casual cafe with options for everyone, the robust breakfast and lunch menu features a variety of fresh and healthy sandwiches, salads, smoothies, juices, and more.
The Downtown eatery first opened its doors in April, serving customers from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Doran aims to attract employees from the 677 Broadway office building and the surrounding Central Business District, and offers a 10 percent discount on in-person purchases for state and city employees. Mr Bumbles Cafe also provides online ordering with pickup and delivery options.
Doran attributes the expansion to the positive momentum in downtown Albany. His goal is to provide “healthy, affordable food options to the people who work and live in the area.”
He opened Mr Bumbles Cafe with business partner Tom Vacanti, owner of Dove + Deer in Albany’s Center Square neighborhood.
“We chose 677 Broadway because of its excellent location. It offers convenient parking and walkable access, and we are excited to serve the captive audience both within the building and in the surrounding offices, such as the DEC and the Leo O’Brien Building,” said Mr Bumbles Cafe Owner Brandon Doran. “I hope our guests appreciate the simplicity of the experience: getting exactly what they want at an affordable price, made to order with fresh, quality ingredients.”
"Mr. Bumbles Cafe represents exactly the kind of local investment that helps make downtown Albany stronger, more vibrant, and more welcoming. Small businesses are essential to the fabric of our city, and my Administration remains committed to making sure our local business owners have a direct line to City Hall as we continue building a thriving Downtown where residents, workers, and visitors all want to be,” said Mayor Dr. Dorcey Applyrs.
“Mr Bumbles Cafe is exactly the kind of business we’re thrilled to attract Downtown. Already a successful concept with a loyal following, Mr Bumbles has a proven track record, and Brandon has already found success with several Albany eateries,” said Georgette Steffens, Executive Director of the Downtown Albany BID. “Providing healthy breakfast and lunch options is a great way to serve our community. We’re proud to welcome Mr Bumbles to our list of outstanding Downtown restaurants and look forward to dining here often.”
