We're hiring! Marketing & Communications Manager


The full time Marketing & Communications Manager will direct the BID’s overall marketing and communications initiatives. Lead in the development, creation and implementation of marketing, advertising, communications, public relations, and fundraising plan for BID initiatives in accordance with the Mission Statement; collaborating with members, media and target audiences.  Highly strategic and responsive in ensuring the BID’s message and overall marketing, brand and communications are reflective of the mission and values.  


RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Design, write and execute strategic and tactical marketing plan(s), working closely with the Executive Director.  
  • Develop, coordinate, and execute annual marketing, communications and media plan to foster economic development, increase visits and develop positive image of Downtown.  Research, analyze and monitor financial, technological, and demographic factors to capitalize on market opportunities.
  • Manage, maintain and update BID website as the webmaster. In collaboration with Marketing & Special Events Coordinator, develop and create engaging site content, image selection and editing. Make recommendations to develop the site to further promote and advance economic development, special events, marketing and promotional opportunities. 
  • Manage all forms of social media, keeping with same voice and brand as set for by the organization. 
  • Ensure branding strategy attributes are integrated throughout all aspects of the BID’s goals in accordance with the brand management plan.
  • Assist the Executive Director and Special Events Manager to develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy and ad sales to support the implementation of the organization’s strategic plan. Build relationships and generate new corporate supporters for BID related functions, special events, and initiatives. 
  • Oversee, develop and manage content for marketing materials including website, brochures, annual report, e-newsletters, etc.
  • Develop in-house and/or direct graphic artists on design, layout, and production of advertising and collateral materials.
  • Identify new and creative ways to promote businesses within the BID boundary to Downtown employees, City and Capital Region residents and beyond.
  • Act as both internal and external BID liaison to develop and implement an efficient marketing plan for informational, promotional and educational material to members, media, etc.
  • Plan and administer marketing budget, consulting with the Executive Director on the business development marketing plan.  
  • Evaluate, track and critique effectiveness of programs in relation to quantifiable returns in both time and money expended.
  • Coordinate, manage and negotiate with marketing and communication vendors to maximize budget.
  • Manage the BID’s Marketing Committee.
  • Report progress of communication initiatives regularly to Executive Director. 
  • Shared management of Marketing & Events Coordinator with Special Events Manager. Hire and manage marketing/communications interns.
  • Take the lead and manage grand openings and ribbon cuttings including development of press releases and media outreach/follow-up.
  • Work with local press and trade publications on developing and placing stories promoting BID initiatives as well as advertising placement.
  • Manage and maintain media lists. 
  • Participate in BID special events.
  • Additional duties as assigned. 
     

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Position reports to the Executive Director. Oversees, supervises and evaluates Marketing & Events Coordinator in conjunction with Special Events Manager.


SCOPE
Lead marketing, communications and public relations strategies that advance the BID’s mission and strategic priorities.  The Marketing & Communications Manager plays a critical role in positioning the BID’s efforts at all levels including branding, communications, business development, programming, advertising and corporate fundraising.  
 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated strategic out of the box thinking, creativity and decision making.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a MARCOM field or related field and 2 years experience directing marketing programs, OR Associates Degree and 3 years experience directing marketing programs, OR high school or equivalent and 4 years experience directing marketing programs or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • Results-oriented, highly motivated, independent, flexible team player able to juggle various projects simultaneously. Ability to multitask, prioritize and organize a number of concurrent projects. Self-starter and comfortable taking the initiative to problem-solve. Ability to meet aggressive deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Exceptional writing, editing and organizational skills.
  • Proven track record in raising visibility and profile of an institution/place and ability to identify and effectively influence target audience. 
  • Strong interpersonal, people-management and negotiating skills
  • Proven ability to participate in, influence and foster relationships across functional teams while aligning with the BID’s culture and values
  • Proven track record of fundraising and corporate stewardship. Effective in working with and coordinating diverse leaders and audiences ranging from business, philanthropy, media and community organizations. 
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from constituents, elected officials and general public.
     

SALARY
