Volunteer Opportunity
518 Day Races • Saturday, May 16 • Check-in at Liberty Park (30 Hudson Ave) in downtown Albany
The Downtown Albany BID and its partners are hosting the Capital Region’s first-ever 518 Day Races and Festival, and are seeking volunteers on the morning of Saturday, May 16, to help with the activities described below. 518 Day volunteers enjoy some great perks, such as a free 518 Day t-shirt, complimentary tickets to Melba Madness, plus, breakfast and coffee included for those who participate on the morning of the race. The BID is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization committed to restoring, promoting, and maintaining Downtown Albany, NY, the core of our Capital Region. The BID operates its events on a limited budget and relies on the contributions of volunteers and sponsors to provide special events and programming for our community. 📅Saturday, May 16: Race morning

Roles:
- 🕑7:00 AM-9:00 AM | Pre-event check-in
📌1k Location: Quackenbush Square (near 19 Quackenbush Sq, for navigation purposes)
📌5.18k Location: Liberty Park (30 Hudson Ave, for navigation purposes, check-in at 7:00 AM)
Job duties: Help sign in racers, distribute bibs and t-shirts, answer basic race course questions - 🕑8:00 AM-10:30 AM | Course marshal *This is our largest area of need - if spots are left, we encourage you to consider this role.
📌1k & 5.18k Location: Various points along the race course, exact locations will be assigned closer to or on race date.
Job duties: Help direct runners along the course, remain alert to outside traffic, and any cyclists, pedestrians, or other potential course hazards that may appear.
🧍! Please note, this role will involve standing for 60 min. or more. - 🕑9:00 AM-10:30 AM | Water stop
📌5.18k Location: Jennings Landing
Job duties: Help pour water cups and hand them out to passing racers.
📅Saturday, May 16: After the race

Roles:
- 🕑9:00 AM-11:00 AM | Awards & cleanup
📌Awards location: Quackenbush Square Courtyard (9:00 AM-10:00 AM)
📌Cleanup location: Sections of race course (10:00 AM-11:00 AM)
Job duties: Help set up awards table and distribute awards, help sweep the course for any trash or debris after the race.
